Save the date – 5 October 2015: Let's Consider Risk – networking event with Sir Andrew Burns

At the BSB, we think it is important to focus on the things that really matter. We've been doing a lot of work on what we think the risks are in relation to barristers – risks that impact the public and the interests of justice. We will be publishing this so that we can hear your perspective and start a dialogue.

This is your personal invitation to a reception on 5 October to hear our Chair, Sir Andrew Burns, outline what we're doing and why we're doing it. He will also explain how you can give your views and what opportunities there are to build on areas of common interest.

Sir Andrew will share his thoughts on the Bar Standards Board's role in continuing to protect the public while helping the profession to adapt to the changing landscape in legal services.

We will outline our thoughts about a new strategy and explain how we use the concept of risk to prioritise what we do. We will also demonstrate the vital role you have in our work.

There will also be a Question and Answer session led by Sir Andrew, as well as ample networking opportunities.

Refreshments and canapés will be served.

We would very much like you to attend, so look forward to receiving your response to our invitation.

Why should you attend?

We're trying to set out how we understand and are addressing the key risks to the public interest, as simply and clearly as we can. We need feedback to see if we are getting this right and we need that feedback from as many different perspectives as we can. We also want to talk about how we can work together more effectively and this is your opportunity to get involved from the beginning.

We will introduce a series of roundtable discussions through the Autumn to build shared insight into key risk areas within our complex sector. These present a valuable forum to focus on areas of shared interest.

If you're thinking that this may seem a little different to how things have been done in the past, you're right. This is a key part of our new approach to regulation: listening, learning and focusing our efforts collectively on things that really matter.

We think we have a shared interest in ensuring a strong profession can meet the public's needs and serve the interests of justice – and want to see where we can work together to shape the future.

So please join us on 5 October to hear what the BSB's risk approach is all about.
