This event is a part of King’s College London Bar and Mooting Society’s (KCLBMS) ‘Diversity Series’ – in partnership with Cake and Counsel – an initiative to achieve our society’s aim to create an inclusive community for current students, who all share an aspiration of a career at the Bar. The Bar is typically seen as an elitist profession, something only for those who fit the ‘traditional’ mould and who come from the ‘right’ background. It is our mission to change this perception and to show students from every background that no matter what barriers they see standing in their way, there is definitely a place at the Bar for them.
Therefore, ‘Networking With Black and Asian Barristers’ is to make the bar more accessible and achievable for budding Barristers, as well as to create a positive step to dispel, traditional misconceptions about the Bar. We have over 60 Barristers attending the event, offering an amazing opportunity for students to network with Barristers of colour from all practise areas, reshaping the image many students have of the Bar. This event will offer invaluable experience for those aspiring to enter the legal world, and we want this to be shared with as many people as possible to ensure that everyone has a fair chance of obtaining work experience and advice from experts.
